A few words from
Paul Ardenne,
Critic and Contemporary Art Historian

Françoise Bismuth,
Art opens up Worlds

(excerpts from Paul Ardenne's text)

"Françoise Bismuth's painted work is neither abstract nor realistic.
Positioned on the edge between genres, seemingly more vagabond and prolific than directive and dry.
He stages a repertoire of abundant and varied forms that are not always clearly identifiable, offered in all-over and lavish with this plastic effect; An offer of sobriety, naivety, light grace, multiplicity...

Here we open, we do not enclose, we bring into the painting, according to a gentle but obstinate dynamic, the world as it invades your soul and fingers...
What do Françoise Bismuth's paintings show us? Forms that call for others, in an abstract or semi‐figurative mode – we can guess here a body, a window, people... others, in an abstract or semi-figurative mode—here we can make out a body, a window, people...
The colors? They too seem to call for other colors, favoring the optical effect, against the crushing of intensities.
All the paintings produced, in a coherent sum where each painting responds to the other, ultimately produces an optical combination where the viewer's eye captures the good pleasure of creation without ever forcing or constraining itself.
To understand, his possibility, his generosity, his ability at the same time to welcome, to fix and to breathe an immediate and unclosed sensation of the world."

Françoise Bismuth, born in 1954, lives and works in Perpignan.

After studying Literature at the University of Tours, then Linguistics at the University of Paris-Sorbonne, she was a Professor of Schools for many years in Paris.
Her artworks, in addition to sometimes bearing witness to the memory of his accompaniment of several generations of schoolchildren, are all essentially the result of a life course intimately linked to the world of the arts.
